As the first commander of the newly formed Dal Khalsa, he led the Sikhs to victory in numerous battles against the Mughals and Afghans capturing the forts of Lahore (1762) and Delhi (1783). He laid the foundations for the princely state of Kapurthala. Jassa Singh died in Amritsar in 1783.
